Area Guitarist Scott Whitney Breaks Radio Barrier
New CD "Guitjazzathon" now available
on over 40 stations throughout country;
all without the benefit of typical radio promotional support

LOS GATOS, Calif., AUGUST 1, 2003 -- When first researching the
steps necessary for getting his latest Acoustic Jazz / Latin Guitar
CD, Guitjazzathon
radio exposure, guitarist Scott Whitney discovered that the common
"group-thought" among musicians was:
- You need a professional Radio Promoter to get any type of exposure
on the radio
- Without a Radio Promoter, you're sunk.
After learning that a reputable Radio Promoter would cost upwards
of $3,600.00, Whitney set out on his own. "I wanted to see
first-hand if the group-thought I'd been exposed to was accurate,"
said Whitney. "I recognized that part of a Radio Promoters
service was to leverage their existing relationship with various
radio stations. So, I began the process of trying to develop similar
relationships via a home-grown radio promotion campaign."
Beginning by creating a list of radio stations appropriate for
Whitney's type of music, Scott contacted each station individually,
asking for advice on gaining radio exposure. "The method by
which I asked for their advice was VERY important," added Whitney.
The results of his efforts?
- Over 40 stations in 23 states throughout the country added
the Guitjazzathon CD to their playlist/media library.
- Several stations requested "Station
IDs"
- KSDS-FM (San Diego, CA) did
a 30 minute live on-air interview with Scott
- KUNC-FM (Colorado) featured
the "Guitjazzathon" CD as their "Air Currents CD
of the Week"
